When Should You Choose Air Freight Over Sea Freight?
Utilising air cargo logistics is an excellent option for goods that are urgent or the unit price of the goods is high, but the quantity of the goods is small i.e. 300-500kg.
With air freight, the delivery time and price are more flexible than sea freight because you can choose direct or deferred services, with different routes. However, for larger deliveries which don’t carry such time-sensitivities, we always recommend using sea freight.
How long does air freight take to or from Australia?
Typical air freight transit times range from 1–7 days, depending on the origin/destination pair and whether the service is direct or consolidated. Add 1–2 days for customs clearance and local delivery. Air freight is the fastest option for international shipping.
Deferred: Typically, the most cost-effective option, as the routing will include stopovers. This mode is suitable for goods with lower time requirements (no dangerous goods, oversized or temperature-controlled goods).
Direct: Slightly more expensive than economical, but a shorter delivery time as the routing is direct.
Courier: The fastest option, with rates based on our Door-to-Door wholesale accounts.
